Jet lag. What to do?
Sydney is 14 hours ahead of us. This is a huge jump in time.
There is the Argonne diet and there is the schedule of melatonin and there is sunlight.
But one of my teammates gave me the most succinct solution, "Stay awake all night and sleep on the plane to LA."
I can't tell you the last time I pulled an "all-nighter."
This is gonna be interesting.

jenny, don't know how we got disconnected but it was great to get your call from LA. you sounded hale and hearty and quite lucid-- let's see how long THAT lasts!! ha, ha, just kidding of course-- if anyone can conquer jet lag, you can. then again, if you are following the argonne diet approach, which i read about with great interest, you will arrive already on aussie time raring to go. do let us know if the protein/carb feast/famine type of diet switching really works once you get there. all the family events went well yesterday-- the autism walk was nice cause the rainy weather cleared up and it was cool and sunny. dave, brian, peg, brandyn, sydney, terry, and i drove down to citizens bank park and had a nice time. i hooked up with a friend from work, mary, whose daughter works with autistic students and mary and christine (her daughter) got to meet dave and brian. i had told her many times what a neat brother i have and what a wonderful nephew brian is and she just had to meet them. this year they even had a country singer who had recorded a song about autism and he was there IN PERSON to sing it. His name??? don't rightly remember but his song was sweet. afterwards, i went with sue and christine and janey to help babysit at their church during the installation of their new priest. got to meet some more great kids, little jamie and jasmine and others who all knew janey and were keen on playing hide and seek (at janey's suggestion of course). met someone who worked at merck reminding me what a truly small world it is after all. sean's party featured an earthy meat and potatoes dinner (and Brandyn had kindly made some salmon to share with me), lots of family on both sides, birthday cake and good times. sean was very pleased to receive all the Best Buy gift cards for getting his own iPOD and didn't seem to mind that i was bugging him with questions about becky who i am still eager to meet. sitting here reading email sunday afternoon i realize that you are all still traveling somewhere over the great wide pacific. quite amazing. should be great for your frequent flyer miles when all is said and done. tie me kangaroo down sport, tie me kangaroo down, everybody now! remember that song --from the 60's? maybe you can find out the true meaning of those lyrics from the natives and if anyone ever plays it, like maybe on an old jukebox somewhere on a farflung little hamlet in the outback? saw kris's posting on the nice weather in australia - hope it remains that way for your entire stay. more impossible things have happened before, so why not. well thinking of you all and wishing you a very happy landing and all the follow on landings to come--love, your virtual fellow traveler, joanie
ps- looks like you set the time stamp on aussie time since its still sunday around 1:30pm here, fyi
